PRODUCT INFORMATION

CHALK PAINT® DECORATIVE PAINT BY ANNIE SLOAN

Chalk Paint® is the brand name for Annie’s unique water-based decorative paint. It is a non-toxic and virtually odour-free paint that has minimal volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at 0.13% VOC (EU limit value for this product (cat. a): 30g/l (2010)). Developed by Annie Sloan specifically for furniture, it can be applied to most surfaces and very rarely requires any priming or sanding before painting. You can use it on walls, floors, wood, concrete, metal, matt plastic, earthenware, brick, stone and more – inside or outside. You can even use it to paint upholstery and dye fabric.

Chalk Paint® produces extensive coverage approx 13.9 sq metres per litre (equivalent to a small dresser) and one coat is usually enough. It can be thinned with water and used as a wash. It can also be used as an impasto (thickly) — just leave the lid off overnight to thicken. Add Chalk Paint® Wax for a subtle sheen, protection and durability. For an aged look, add Dark or Black Chalk Paint® Wax. To lighten colours or for a limed look, try White Chalk Paint® Wax.

WALL PAINT BY ANNIE SLOAN

Wall Paint is the brand name for Annie Sloan’s tough, water-based household paint. It is a non-toxic and virtually odour-free paint that has low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at 12g/l VOC (EU limit value for this product (cat. a): 30g/l (2010)). Developed by Annie Sloan specifically for walls and ceilings, it offers a durable, matt finish. Washable and scrubbable, everyday spills and marks are cleaned off with ease, making this an exceptionally practical, high performance paint.

Wall Paint produces extensive coverage approx 14.5 sq metres per litre and one coat is usually enough. Wall Paint can be used on its own with no need to wax or varnish afterwards.

ANNIE SLOAN PAINT AND CHALK PAINT® WAX DURING PREGNANCY

We advise pregnant women to ask someone else to apply Chalk Paint® Wax on their behalf. While there is nothing inherently harmful in the wax, the fumes produced as the wax dries may cause a feeling of lightheadedness, to which pregnant women may be more susceptible. There are no lasting harmful effects to using Chalk Paint® Wax, only the immediate risk of feeling lightheaded or dizzy.

CHILDREN’S ROOMS AND TOY SAFETY

Both Chalk Paint® and Wall Paint are non-toxic and perfectly safe for children’s furniture and walls. Further to this, samples of Chalk Paint®, Wall Paint and Chalk Paint® Wax have been independently tested and certified as Toy Safe according to strict European regulations (BS EN 71-3:2013). We advise that for things that children might put in their mouths, the wax should be allowed to cure for 5 – 21 days to ensure that it has hardened completely.

FLAMMABILITY

Both Chalk Paint® and Wall Paint are water-based paints and not flammable. They are not, however, classified as fire retardant paints (BS 476). They are safe for use on fire surrounds, radiators and hearths.

ANIMAL TESTING

None of our products have been tested on animals. Chalk Paint® and Chalk Paint® Lacquer do not contain any animal products, however Chalk Paint® Wax contains beeswax.

SHELF LIFE

All paints have a shelf life and Annie Sloan paints are no exception. While we know that Chalk Paint® and Wall Paint can potentially last for several years when stored carefully, once the paint leaves the shop we have no idea how or where it will be stored. We recommend using paint within one year of purchase.

Shelf life can be reduced when stored in extremes of temperature or where temperatures fluctuate. Likewise, once a tin has been opened, the shelf life can be shortened considerably. Air in the opened tin can eventually lead to rusting, regardless of storage temperature. Reduce potential contamination of the paint by decanting before you add water, rather than adding water to the paint in the tin.

In most cases customers will have no problem working with ‘old’ paint. If it’s thick, add water and stir well and away you go!
